Legal Translations’ services are governed exclusively by Legal Translations’ General Terms and Conditions, which can also be found on the website www.legaltranslations.be. General terms and conditions of the client and/or principal, or other conditions mentioned in orders, order forms or other documents, are not applicable, unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing between the parties. The nullity of one or more provisions does not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these general terms and conditions.
Services are ordered in writing by sending an order form or a signed quotation by mail, fax or e-mail. Telephone orders must be confirmed in writing within 24 hours, provided the next day is a business day, otherwise the order will be considered not placed. By placing an order, the client accepts the General Terms and Conditions of Legal Translations. Legal Translations is not responsible for incorrect or incomplete billing information provided by the client. If a correction of a written invoice is requested, an administrative fee of 50 Euros will be charged.
The material required for translation shall be supplied to Legal Translations by the client at his/her own expense. The cost of returning the material and the translation to the client shall be borne by Legal Translations, provided this is done by e-mail, fax or regular postal services. All translations shall be based on the correctness of the words, expressions and spelling as listed in recognized dictionaries. However, the client may communicate preferences for spelling or word choice to Legal Translations in advance. During or before commencement of the assignment, the client shall provide all necessary information for correct execution. Specific abbreviations in the text must be explained by the client. Each translation shall be performed under professional secrecy, unless agreed otherwise in writing. In case of unilateral termination of the assignment by the client, the client shall owe a fee. This shall consist of compensation for services already rendered according to Legal Translations’ rates, plus a lump-sum compensation of 25% of the agreed price, subject to proof of greater damage. Legal Translations keeps all digital files related to translation assignments (source texts and translations) on its servers for five years, after which it reserves the right to delete them. The client guarantees that the texts, documents and reference material supplied do not contain any personal data as referred to in the ‘General Data Protection Regulation’. Any personal data must be removed or anonymized in advance by the client. The client indemnifies Legal Translations against any claim for damages by third parties in connection with personal data handed over to Legal Translations in violation of this provision.
Complaints must be submitted by registered and motivated letter within seven days after delivery of the translation or performance of the service. After this period, the translation or service will be considered to be accepted. Complaints about the quality of the translation must be substantiated with dictionaries, glossaries or similar text material written by competent native speakers. The unfounded refusal of a translation does not give the right to non-payment of the invoice. In case of disputes about quality, the matter can be submitted to the Arbitration Committee of the Belgian Chamber of Translators, Interpreters and Philologists (BKVTF). Complaints do not suspend the payment obligation of the customer and/or client.
In the event of force majeure, such as fire, strike, power failure, Legal Translations’ obligations shall be suspended. As soon as it is reasonably possible, deliveries shall be resumed or other commitments shall be fulfilled.

Invoices are payable within 30 days of receipt, net and without discount, unless otherwise agreed. The customer and/or client always remains responsible for payment, even if the invoice is in the name of a third party. Invoices must be disputed within seven days of the invoice date by means of a registered and reasoned letter. Failing this, the invoice will be considered to be accepted. Unpaid invoices will automatically be increased by an interest rate of 12% per year, plus a fixed compensation of 10% with a minimum of 125 Euros. The non-payment of a single invoice makes all other outstanding invoices immediately payable.
Legal Translations may only be held liable in the event of willful intent. The liability shall in any case be limited to the invoice value of the assignment. Legal Translations shall not be liable for indirect damage, such as loss of clients, loss of profit or loss of data.
Legal Translations has the right to terminate or suspend all or part of the agreement in the event of non-compliance by the client, or in the event of bankruptcy or liquidation of the client.
Unless agreed otherwise in writing, Legal Translations retains the copyright to the translations and texts it produces. Following full payment, Legal Translations grants the client an unlimited right of use to the translations. The client indemnifies Legal Translations against claims by third parties regarding intellectual property rights in connection with the execution of the assignment.
All contracts with Legal Translations are governed by Belgian law. Disputes shall be submitted to the competent court of the district where Legal Translations has its registered office.
